Christ as the
Tree of Life
We’ve reached the final month of our Twelve Powers series, and December brings us to one of the most profound gifts: the Power of Life.
Life, as a spiritual power, is more than a biological existence. It is vitality, renewal, creativity, flow, and the animating force of Spirit expressing through us. It is the “yes” we say to being alive, awake, and fully present.
The Two Trees: Ways to Experience Life
In one of the creation stories from the Hebrew Scriptures, two symbolic trees stand at the center of the Garden of Eden:
- The Tree of Life
- The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil
(Genesis 2:9, 2:16–17)
Mythically, these trees represent two ways of engaging with consciousness.
The Tree of Life reflects unitive awareness—receiving life as it is, without dividing it into “good” and “bad.” It symbolizes simply being in the flow of divine vitality.

The Tree of Knowledge represents dualistic consciousness: the mind that separates, judges, and categorizes. In this reading, the snake—often a symbol of time, cycles, and renewal—tempts them with the perception of separation.
- Unity/Christ consciousness says: All things are inherently good because all things contain God.
- Dualistic consciousness says: Some parts of life are acceptable; some are not.
Choosing Life means choosing the former.
Life as the Christ-Centered Power
Life as a spiritual ability is activated when we release judgment, criticism, and blame—whether directed inward or outward. Jesus taught:
“The measure you give will be the measure you get back.” ~Matthew 7:2
In metaphysical language:
What we judge, we reinforce. What we bless, we magnify.
The powers of Life, Love, Imagination, and Elimination work closely together:
- Love harmonizes and opens the heart.
- Imagination sparks the creative impulse.
- Elimination (Release) frees us from dualistic thought.
- Life moves us forward and animates our expression.
Life flows most freely when Love is the catalyst.

Christ as the New Tree of Life
In the Christian scriptures, Christ is presented as a new Tree of Life—the source of vitality, renewal, and spiritual rebirth:
- Jesus as the true vine (John 15:1–5)
- Christ as the second Adam restoring humanity to divine life (1 Corinthians 15:45–49)
The invitation is not to adopt dogma but to follow the way of Jesus, aligning our consciousness with compassion, nonjudgment, unity, and inner transformation. Paul described this indwelling Christ presence as:
“Christ in you, the hope of glory.” ~Colossians 1:27
This indwelling Presence is the new Tree of Life, always accessible within.
Discernment Without Judgment
Nonjudgment is not moral indifference. It’s the refusal to rank people’s worth based on behavior. Discernment gives clarity, but judgment creates a moral hierarchy.
In the creation story, God looks at everything and calls it “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Goodness is part of our essence, not something we earn.
Jesus makes this point when a man approaches Him and says, “Good Teacher…”
Jesus replies:
“Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.” ~Mark 10:17–18
Jesus is not denying His divine identity. He is challenging the man’s definition of goodness. The man believes goodness is determined by moral performance—what someone does or avoids doing. This is the consciousness represented by the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
The Rich Young Ruler — A Lesson in Moralism vs. Essence
The same passage emphasizes that the man had kept all the commandments (Mark 10:19–20). From his viewpoint, he had achieved goodness through behavior. His identity was rooted in moral accomplishment.
But Jesus redirects him away from moralism and into essence.
Jesus invites him into the flow of Life itself—into trust, surrender, and unitive consciousness—by saying:
“You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor… then come, follow me.” ~Mark 10:21
The man leaves grieving (Mark 10:22) because he cannot release the identity he built and predetermined to be good. He cannot step into being good. This is the key distinction:
- The man’s definition of good: moral achievement, rule-keeping, external behavior
- Jesus’ definition of good: inherent worth rooted in God, beyond behavior
The man represents Life lived through the Tree of Knowledge—dividing actions into good and bad, measuring worth by deeds.
Jesus represents the Tree of Life—goodness as inherent, God-given, and unearned.
This is the consciousness shift required to activate the Power of Life: moving from moralism to essence, from judgment to unity, from doing to being.
Life Is Activated Through Embodiment, Not Information
We do not experience the Power of Life just by learning spiritual ideas. We experience it by living them.
There’s an exchange where Jesus speaks to religious scholars who diligently searched sacred texts for life:
“You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that testify on my behalf. Yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” ~John 5:39–40
Life is not found in the past. Life is not found in doctrine. Life is in the present moment, in the inner Christ, and in the Spirit alive within us.
Jesus later explains the role of the Holy Spirit:
“The Spirit of truth… will guide you into all truth… and declare to you the things that are to come.” ~John 16:13
The sages of all the ages have reminded us that Life is always now. Joy is now. Peace is now. Love is now. Every spiritual student throughout the ages have waited in eager anticipation for these qualities to appear.
When we align with the Spirit within us, we activate the Power of Life.
Affirmative Prayer: Awakening the Power of Life
I open my mind and heart to the living Presence of God within me. I say yes to life—yes to vitality, yes to renewal, yes to the divine flow moving through every part of my being.
I release all judgment, all fear, and all stories of separation.
I allow the Spirit of Truth to guide me into clarity, compassion, and wholeness.
I am rooted in Love, animated by Life, and aligned with the Christ presence that renews me from within.
I bless my path, I bless my becoming, and I bless the divine Life expressing as me.
And so it is.
