The Power of Life
We have reached the final month of our Twelve Powers series and arrive at the Power of Life. Charles and Myrtle Fillmore intuited the Twelve Powers as they deepened their own healing work—recognizing that human beings possess innate spiritual capacities that mirror the life of the Christ within. Each power corresponds to a region of the body and to one of the disciples, while Jesus represents the full expression of the Christ potential inherent in every person.
The Power of Life is located in what the Fillmores called the generative organs, which correspond metaphysically to the root and sacral energy centers familiar to Eastern traditions. These centers relate to groundedness, creativity, vitality, abundance, sexuality, embodiment, and the ability to experience fulfillment and connection.

In Unity metaphysics, Life is not merely biological existence. It is regeneration, vitality, creative flow, and the continual renewing activity of Spirit. Myrtle Fillmore saw Life as something that expresses directly through our physical organisms. Long before the field of neuroscience identified interoception—the internal sense of our physiological condition—Myrtle taught practices that cultivate awareness of the inner life-force.
She affirmed:
“The flow of God’s life through us becomes hindered in its expression if our thoughts and acts imply a belief in a limited number of years, in a hoarding of strength or substance or supply.” ~ Myrtle Fillmore, Healing Letters (Drawing on the Source)
In other words, our thoughts about limitation constrict the inner flow of Life. When we fear decline, scarcity, aging, or loss, we unknowingly restrict the movement of divine vitality.
Myrtle was a metaphysical teacher long before somatic language existed, yet she consistently described practices that today would be recognized as interoceptive awareness, breath-based regulation, and deep embodiment. She wrote:
“When you go into the silence… direct your attention into your organism, away from your head. The flow of blood will follow the attention… and the forces of your being will be equalized.” ~ Myrtle Fillmore, Healing Letters (Going Into the SIlence)
These teachings mirror what contemporary science tells us: directing awareness into the body shifts the nervous system, regulates the heart, deepens breath, equalizes circulation, and increases the capacity for healing.
And Myrtle emphasizes the spiritual dimension of this bodily awareness:
“The more you think about God’s presence of life, purity, love, strength, and health in every fiber of your body temple, the stronger will become your consciousness that your organism is the temple of ‘Christ in you.’” ~ Myrtle Fillmore, Healing Letters (Concerning Age)
For Myrtle, interoception wasn’t merely sensing the body—it was communion with the indwelling Christ-life. She called this divine energy “God-Life,” a regenerative presence that continuously renews, restores, harmonizes, and heals.
Life Energy in Scripture
The gospel story of the woman who touched the hem of Jesus’ garment demonstrates sensing this Life presence. Jesus, sensing her healing, says:
“I perceived that power had gone out from me.” (Luke 8:46)
The Greek word dynamis used here suggests vital force, energy, or spiritual potency. Jesus’ awareness of this movement is interoceptive: an inner perception of the life-force flowing through Him.
This story is not about magical power but about Christ-consciousness interacting with receptive consciousness. When we attune to our inner life-force—through silence, breath, relaxation, and focused awareness—we can feel the movement of Life within us and through us.
Judas: The Disciple of Life
The Power of Life is represented by Judas. While that may feel surprising at first, metaphysically it makes deep sense.
The Fillmores taught that each disciple represents a spiritual faculty still in the process of development—and Judas embodies the generative life-force. The generative center is powerful, creative, and essential for vitality, expression, sexuality, reproduction, and regeneration. Yet, when governed by personality rather than Spirit, it is the most easily misdirected.
Charles Fillmore wrote that Life, when unredeemed, is “the faculty that betrays the Christ.”
This does not condemn Judas; it names the spiritual reality that vitality without spiritual guidance becomes impulsivity, compulsion, addiction, and the desperate search for life in external forms.
Judas symbolizes the life-center awaiting redemption—the part of us that reaches for quick solutions, temporary pleasures, or external validation rather than trusting the inward movement of Spirit.

When the Life faculty is spiritualized or in alignment with our Higher Self (Christ Nature), it becomes the seat of:
- renewal
- creative expression
- healing
- courage
- vitality
- enthusiasm
- the joy of embodiment
Judas’ story reminds us that the generative power is not something to fear or suppress; it is something to redeem, align, and direct through the Christ Mind.
Christ as the Redeemer of Life
In Unity metaphysics, “Christ” is not limited to Jesus of Nazareth. It is the eternal spiritual pattern of wholeness expressing in humanity. When Life is aligned with the Christ presence, it becomes healing, creative, and transformative.
Myrtle says:
“The Christ presence within our own souls is the Great Physician who has wisdom and power to heal and to adjust in divine order every function of our body temples.” ~ Myrtle Fillmore, Healing Letters (Jesus Christ)
To awaken the Power of Life is to remember that we are expressions of an infinite regenerative Source. Life is not something we acquire; it is the presence of divinity flowing through us.
From a Unity metaphysics perspective, our role is to:
- release tension
- relax into the body
- affirm divine vitality
- quiet the judging mind
- and listen to the inner flow of Spirit
When we do, Life expresses through us with greater clarity, intelligence, strength, and joy.
A Simple Interoceptive Practice for Awakening the Power of Life
Find a comfortable seated position.
Let your shoulders drop.
Take a slow breath in… and a longer breath out.
- Bring your attention to the lower abdomen, the region associated with the Power of Life.
- Imagine this area softening. No pushing. Just allowing.
- Notice any subtle sensations—warmth, tingling, spaciousness, movement.
- Silently affirm:
“God-Life flows through every fiber of my being.” - Allow your awareness to widen: hips, belly, low back, pelvis.
- Breathe gently and continue to sense the inner movement of Life.
- Close by affirming:
“As an expression of Love, my Higher Self renews, restores, and regenerates. I am alive with divine vitality.”
