Discover Your Freedom
Pride & Power
June is Pride Month—a time when we honor the resilience, beauty, and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community. This year, inspired by the theme of DC Pride, “The Fabric of Freedom,” we reflect on how our spiritual gifts and our identities are interwoven. We are each expressions of divine love, woven together with intention, color, and purpose. At Folx with Faith, our foundation in Unity spirituality provides a powerful framework to explore this connection through the Twelve Powers—twelve spiritual faculties inherent in all people that offer a path to wholeness, healing, and liberation.
Just as the original Pride Flag symbolized a spectrum of human experience and expression, so too do the Twelve Powers reflect the breadth of divine presence within us. By aligning the flag’s colors with Unity’s spiritual powers, we celebrate the vibrancy of queer spirituality and affirm that Pride itself is sacred.
Red: Life
In both the original Pride Flag and Unity’s Twelve Powers, red represents Life. Charles Fillmore defined Life as “the expression of Being which manifests itself as animation, activity, and vigor.”
To be queer is to be vibrantly alive. Despite systems that have tried to suppress our joy, our community pulses with creativity, movement, and love. Life is not just existence; it is divine animation. In Unity and New Thought, some choose to use “Life” as a synonym for God—a sacred force flowing through all.
Affirmation: Life supports me. I am open and receptive to all the good that Life has to offer. Life loves me.
Orange: Healing & Zeal
Orange symbolizes Healing in the Pride Flag and Zeal in Unity. Healing is not just about curing illness—it’s the return to wholeness. Zeal is our inner spark, the divine enthusiasm that propels us forward.
Myrtle Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, transformed her life through spiritual healing. Her affirmation, “I am a child of God; therefore, I do not inherit sickness,” is a call to remember our divine origin. When we heal from trauma, reclaim our bodies, and honor our desires, we embody both healing and zeal.
Affirmation: Healing energy flows through me. I enthusiastically accept my good and go forward to achieve my purpose.
Yellow: Sunlight & Wisdom
Yellow symbolizes Sunlight in the Pride Flag and Wisdom in Unity. Sunlight illuminates; wisdom guides. Louise Hay wrote, “There is always an answer to every question, a solution to every problem…”
Wisdom doesn’t come from dogma—it comes from presence, intuition, and inner knowing. Meditation and mindful awareness help us access this radiant power, cutting through fear and illusion to reveal truth.
Affirmation: Wisdom illuminates my path and guides my every thought, word, and action.
Green: Nature & Order
Green represents Nature in the flag and Order in Unity. While nature may seem chaotic, it follows rhythms and cycles. Likewise, the Power of Order brings spiritual structure and harmony.
Order isn’t about rigidity—it’s about balance. It’s knowing when to act, when to rest, and how to align with divine timing. As LGBTQIA+ people, reclaiming our place in nature and honoring our sacred rhythms is a radical act of spiritual alignment.
Affirmation: Divine Order is active in my life. I trust the rhythm of the Universe.
Blue: Serenity & Faith
Blue stands for Serenity in the Pride Flag and Faith in Unity. Faith isn’t blind belief—it’s deep inner trust that we are supported by Good. It is confidence in the invisible truth of our wholeness.
Faith is what kept our predecessors moving forward despite oppression. Faith is what allows us to claim serenity even when the world is in chaos. We reclaim faith not in doctrines but in divine presence.
Affirmation: I am loved, guided, and supported. I am at peace.
Purple: Spirit & Power
Purple represents Spirit in the flag and the Power of Power in Unity. Spirit is the breath of life; Power is how we speak truth and move energy.
Many of us were taught that power is dangerous. But spiritual power is not domination; it’s alignment. It’s the courage to speak with clarity, love with conviction, and live without shame. Marianne Williamson reminds us: ” Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”
Affirmation: I use my power wisely. I am strong and I am safe.
Pink: Sex & Love
Pink, one of the original colors of the Pride Flag, symbolizes Sex. In Unity, it aligns with Love. Historically, religion has tried to divorce sex from spirituality. But in reality, our bodies and desires are sacred.
Love is the essence of who we are. Loving ourselves, setting boundaries, and showing compassion are all spiritual practices. Our love—romantic, platonic, erotic, communal—is healing.
Affirmations: I am at peace with my sexuality. Love fills every part of my being. I am a beacon of love.
Turquoise: Magic & Imagination
Turquoise represents Magic in the Pride Flag and Imagination in Unity. These are deeply connected. Imagination is how we co-create our world. It’s what allows us to envision liberation when we are surrounded by limitation.
Imagination was hijacked by fear in many of our upbringings. Reclaiming it is a sacred act. Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
Affirmation: My life is magical. I envision good unfolding in every area of my life.
Silver: Will
Silver symbolizes Will, the power to choose. It is divine authority expressed through intention. When our will aligns with divine love and wisdom, we become powerful co-creators.
We practice Will when we say, “I am willing.” Willingness is often the first step toward transformation.
Affirmation: I align my will with the powers of Love and Wisdom. I am willing to heal and grow.
Gold: Understanding
Gold represents Understanding, the wisdom that emerges when we see with clarity. It is the light that allows us to connect the dots—between our experience, our beliefs, and our truth.
Understanding reveals the sacredness of diversity, the purpose in our pain, and the path through confusion. It lets us meet others with compassion.
Affirmation: My wisdom and understanding grow each day. I see clearly and act with love.
Light Green: Strength
Light Green represents Strength. It is endurance, resilience, and stability—all of which queer people have demonstrated for generations.
We develop strength not in the absence of resistance, but through it. Pride is the fruit of generations who stood tall despite rejection.
Affirmation: I am strong and I demonstrate my strength at every level. I can do it.
Russet: Release
Release Russet symbolizes Release—the power to let go. Release is not weakness; it is strength. It’s saying goodbye to beliefs, patterns, and fears that no longer serve us.
Our power is often tangled in old stories. Through Release, we untangle ourselves and step freely into the now.
Affirmation: I now free myself from destructive fears and doubts. I release the past and forgive everyone, including myself.
We Are the Fabric of Freedom
Every color. Every power. Every life. We are each a thread in the divine tapestry of liberation. The Twelve Powers show us what already exists within us. The Pride Flag reminds us to wave it boldly.
This Pride Month, we celebrate the sacredness of queer identity, the resilience of our community, and the divine potential that lives in us all. We are not just worthy of love and liberation—we are the embodiment of it.
