Rev. Shirley Knight

Profile image of Shirley Knight

Rev. Shirley Knight graduated from Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute in 2018 with a master’s degree in divinity and was subsequently licensed as a Unity minister. While in school, Shirley was a founding member of the Unity Ministers Student Association (UMSA) and served on the board.

Rev. Knight is currently on the board of Conflict to Connection in Unity, a group that promotes empathy and insight for growth. Prior to ministerial school, Shirley had a 27-year-career in information management where she progressed from training specialist to quality assurance lead to program manager. As a volunteer Shirley founded a community arts organization called the Athena Art Project.

For 16 years that organization produced an annual music and art festival and other community events such as concerts, art shows and literary readings. For this effort Shirley was honored with a Certificate of Special Recognition from the City of Houston in 2004 and an Extra Mile Award from Uncommon Legacy in 2005. Prior to founding the Athena Art Project,

Shirley produced a show on community access television in which she interviewed accomplished women such as musicians, authors, artists and directors of national organizations. The program won two Access Awards for Programming Excellence. Shirley is a part-time associate minister at Unity of Houston where she primarily focuses on special projects.

Empowered Living: Order

with Rev. Shirley Knight

Sept 27, 2025 10:30 CT

Join us for our monthly Folx with Faith Gathering as Rev. Shirley Knight leads us in an exploration of the spiritual power of Order. In Unity’s teachings, Order is more than structure, it is the divine principle that helps us recognize the natural rhythm of life. From seasons of growth to times of rest, Order invites us to live in harmony with Spirit and to find peace even in the midst of change.

Together, we’ll reflect on how embracing Order can help us:

  • Align with divine timing

  • Find balance in life’s ups and downs

  • Create space for healing, growth, and renewal

  • Celebrate the unfolding of our authentic selves

This gathering is a safe and affirming space for LGBTQIA+ folx and allies to connect, reflect, and experience expressions of divine love. All are welcome.

Come as you are. Bring your whole self. Discover how the power of Order can guide us on the spiritual journey.

What are the benefits of joining online LGBTQ+ events?

  • Safe Space. The single most important benefit of joining online LGBTQ events is the contained, safe space for LGBTQ people to connect with each other. Many LGBTQ people feel isolated and alone, especially if they live in a community that is not accepting of LGBTQ people.
  • Diversity & Reach. Online events may attract a more diverse audience than in-person events: people from all over the world can attend. This supports folx who live in areas not served by large queer communities, and also serves those who may find live events cost prohibitive.
  • Sharing Stories. Virtual events give LGBTQ+ people a platform to share their experiences. When we share our stories, it reduces feelings of isolation and shame, and increases understanding.
  • Expanded Understanding & Awareness. Online LGBTQ events can also be a great way to learn about LGBTQ issues — even within our community! And the more LGBTQ people come together to celebrate their community, the more we can support breaking down stereotypes and prejudice.

In Person Meetings

You can find additional in-person and local online meetings in our directory. The directory includes a variety of queer-centric faith based groups.
