A Celebration of Radical Love, Divine Expression, and Spiritual Wholeness
As we continue our series on the Twelve Powers from the teachings of Charles Fillmore, we arrive at April, the month in which we explore the power of love. In Unity teachings, love is understood as an innate spiritual power—one that aligns us with divine truth, fosters deeper connections, and manifests as an active force for healing and unity in our lives. Rather than being limited to romantic relationships, love is a guiding force that transforms our consciousness and brings forth divine expression in the world.
About Amy Steinberg
Folx with Faith is thrilled to share this powerful reflection from artist, minister, musician, and spiritual teacher Amy Steinberg. Amy is a radiant presence in the New Thought and positive spirituality world, known for her bold honesty, vibrant creativity, and unshakable commitment to love as a spiritual force. Whether she’s on stage performing her original music, leading a Sunday service, or guiding people through creative transformation, Amy embodies the joy and depth of what it means to live spiritually awake and unapologetically authentic.
Amy’s work spans genres and mediums—she’s a writer, a performer, a painter, and a teacher. But across all her offerings, one truth rings clear: Love is the highest power, and we are here to express it fully. Her newest book, Make Good: Cultivating Joy with Creativity, empowers people to break through creative blocks and reconnect with their soul’s expression. Her online community, The Garden of Good, invites folx to co-create and grow in love every week. And her music? It’s not just catchy—it’s a spiritual experience.
Today, we’re honored to share Amy’s blog post with you. In it, she invites us into the deep, paradoxical wisdom of self-love as spiritual practice. She explores what it means to embody love—not just feel it or talk about it, but to truly become it. Her message is clear: loving ourselves is the key to loving others, and when we get that right, the entire universe starts to hum with harmony.
My Life is Love’s Life
By Amy Steinberg
“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” ~ Lucille Ball
“Love your neighbor as yourself” points to a deep need for self-love. Many translations leave this message flat. More accurately, this line reads: “And you are going to love others in the same way that you love yourself.”
This means that if you can love yourself unconditionally, you can love others unconditionally.
So, ask yourself: Do you love yourself unconditionally? Can you forgive yourself for the humanity you possess?
Self-love is not the same as self-centeredness. When I can truly step into a place where I love myself—and by this I mean accept myself—all of it: head to toe, eyeballs to toe jam, scars and tears and fears and hurts and uglies and pleasure and pain and dreams and anger and clouds and rain… when I fall in love with the idea that God is right here in all of it…
God becomes the divine orchestra conductor. We are each a bit of music being played. Each of us is a special part in the symphony of life’s cacophonous opera—7.7 billion humans in fusion—the jazz of humanity—improvisational insanity, swinging from note to note, unfolding.
If I can truly accept myself as an imperative part of the refrain of goodness, of LIFE, then I can let you be whatever wild bebop, hip-hop, impossible-to-define expression of the Divine you are. And together, we can listen. We can sing. We can dance. We can really be alive.
That’s what mystical love is about.
The core of spiritual awakening is the realization that love is the ultimate reality.
And here’s the paradox: the more we love ourselves, the less time we spend being self-obsessed. We stop trying to impress. We stop obsessing about approval or worrying about how we look. We start wondering:
What can I give?
How can I serve?
How can I best be used by Divine LOVE to make this world better?
When we open our hearts to love, we create space for others. We create space for a deeper love with God, as God. We find true love within and it begins to emanate outward, shining through our eyes, our words, our actions, and our experiences.
Let’s return to the words of the Desiderata:
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive God to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
